The picture-perfect York stone building that makes up The Balmoral Hotel is over 100 years old. It started life as three separate homes but gradually, as the hotel expanded, it grew to occupy the whole terrace. In fact, the third house only became part of the hotel as recently as the 1980s.
It is widely believed that the reason the Balmoral is so-called is because the first owner used to be the chef to the Queen Mother making the name a perfect fit for the understated grandeur and quiet luxury of The Balmoral Hotel.
